Dr. Fay
Whitbourne
Chairman, Central Medical
Labs
Dr. Fay E. Whitbourne is one of the most accomplished members of the
medical fraternity
in Jamaica, with a diverse and impressive list of academic and
professional achievements.
She is one of the architects of Central Medical Laboratories’ formula
for success. Armed with her passion for Laboratory Medicine, extensive
professional experience and dedication to the vision of the Company’s
founder, Roy Clarke, she has piloted the Laboratory to world-class
standards and has skillfully positioned the company on the path to
future success. Dr. Whitbourne’s penchant for careful analysis and keen
attention to detail is an attribute that has served this company well,
transforming a fledgling business into a solid organization whose
reliability and integrity have earned the respect of the medical
fraternity.
This super administrator opened her docket 23 years ago as a Consultant
Clinical Pathologist, and she now serves from the Chair of the Board of
Directors of one of the largest and most successful laboratories in
Jamaica, a position she assumed in 2005. Dr. Whitbourne confesses that
she works best where she is happiest, and at Central Medical
Laboratories she found ‘a home away from home’ - a comfortable
environment that drew on her capabilities and honed her skills.
Admittedly and without reservation, this was certainly a job worth
doing; and Dr. Fay Whitbourne did it in her signature quiet and gracious
style. In the process, she has won the admiration of the management and
staff of the organization and, even more importantly, the community that
it serves.
A past Director of the National Public Health Laboratory Services, Dr.
Whitbourne supervised the establishment of several other private
laboratories in Jamaica. She also influenced the legislation of
standards and guidelines for laboratory performance.
A self-confessed “people person” who enjoys interacting with patients,
Dr. Whitbourne currently operates a private practice where she lends her
expertise in Diabetes and Menopause Management. She is among the three
certified Menopause Practitioners in Jamaica and is Founder/President of
the Jamaica Menopause Society.
In 2005, she received the prestigious Medical Association of Jamaica
Award, in acknowledgement of her outstanding service in the field of
medicine.
How does she accomplish so much as a career woman, mother and wife? She
says, “Maintaining balance has always been very important to me and
being comfortable in one’s skin, is an ideal place to be. But my
relationship with God since I was 16-years old has given me an anchor
which has buffered me through life.”
Still yearning to do more and to recreate herself, as she has done in
the past, she now looks forward to her retirement and to getting more
involved in church work, which provides an avenue through which she can
give more to the needy.
Dr. Fay Whitbourne, Central Medical Laboratories proudly recognizes your
sterling achievements in the field of medicine, and hails your
contribution in directing our Company on the road to success.
