Keris Harper

The tenet ‘Honour begets honour,’ aptly reflects the high esteem in which we hold
Mrs. Keris Harper, a key figure in the Central Medical Laboratories story. This committed professional, whose tremendous capacity for compassion has impacted her peers, subordinates and customers, is widely acknowledged as the matriarch of the company.

Employees who need a guiding hand, a kind word, or just a pleasant face when challenges appear automatically turn to Keris Harper, who consistently finds the right formula. Her solutions-oriented approach to business and the every-day problems of life, as well her willingness to share her vast experience for the betterment of others and the organization, make her a rare asset.

“The word ‘NO’ is missing from her dictionary, and her attitude has always been, ‘let’s fix it; there must be another way to do it, or I’ll help you,” her colleagues attest.

Keris Harper’s role in the growth and development of Central Medical Laboratories is exceptional. She joined the company in 1979 as Supervisor, Haematology and overall head of the Oxford Branch, bringing with her a wealth of experience in Haematology and Blood Banking, and a work ethic that helped to inspire and mobilize her associates in the quest for excellence. This, in turn, fuelled the growth of the company and set in motion her elevation to the top echelons of management.

Mrs. Harper was promoted to Laboratory Director in 1985, then to General Manager in 1998 and ultimately to Customer Service Director in 2000. She was appointed a Director of the company in 1988.

An active member of the Caribbean Association of Medical Technologists (CASMET), she has served in various capacities, including Secretary, and as a member of the executive council. She has participated in the setting of the Diploma examinations in Haematology, under the auspices of CASMET.

Keris Harper brings more than the glow of a Bunsen burner to Central Medical Laboratories. She is a beacon to staff and is greatly admired for the ease with which she does so much, without fanfare. In fact, it has been suggested that Mrs. Harper has an extra pair of pyjamas at Central Medical Labs, because the many hours that she has given in service have far surpassed the call of duty. Those who know her well will doubt when she is spotted at the office during her vacation, “I am just passing through.” But this was a reflection of the high importance that she accorded her work.

This spirited woman has brought lightness to what many could describe as routine. She brought laughter and enjoyment, and is the life of the party at staff events. Hardly a frustrated dancer, she is known to be a whiz on the dance-floor, attempting more than the ska or the waltz, but will take on a tango if only for the challenge.

Now on pre-retirement, Keris will certainly be missed, but the essence of her spirit will undoubtedly continue to guide our company.

The Directors, Management and Staff of Central Medical Laboratories salute the professionalism and dedication of Keris Harper, an extraordinary human being, who never backed down from a challenge, who performed her duties with competence, grace and dignity, and, at the same time, nurtured the growth of our organization with a more than adequate mix of sensitivity, diplomacy and respect.
